With Agfair 2006 behind us plans are now under way to make 2008 an even bigger and more entertaining event. Our debriefing meeting identified a few areas that needed improvement and the committee is in the process of addressing these matters to make for an even smoother running event in 2008.
Agfair 2008 will mark our event's twentieth year of operation and the partnership of the Rotary club of Broken Hill and the Pastoralists Association of West Darling is still going strong.
Over the past twenty years Agfair has developed into the biggest biennial event on Broken Hill's calendar and draws patrons and exhibitors from all parts of Australia.
The 2006 event had three hundred exhibitors in attendance and saw approximately twelve thousand patrons through our gates.
Most exhibitors reported good trading, although tough conditions for graziers in the Western Division was still evident they used the opportunity to catch up with friends at Agfair.
Broken Hill and District is currently undergoing a mini boom with Perilya and BeMax injecting both jobs and funds into the district and both companies have announced further expansions to their operations in the near future. This along with several other mining companies announcing plans to open new mines in our district prior to 2008 and Country Energies continued growth and corporate sponsorships augers well for an outstanding twentieth year.
I look forward to welcoming you to Agfair 2008 and wish you well with the opportunities that it will present.
